Historian Shirley Burman to visit Sacramento City College


The SCC Railroad Club will present guest speaker Shirley Burman, historian and railroad photographer, on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 1pm in the Sacramento City College Student Center. This event is free and open to the general public.

In 2012, Burman received the Fred A. and Jane R. Stindt Photography Award for her “‘accomplishments as a railroad photographer, especially the documentation of women’s contributions to railroading.’”

Since 1991, Burman has presented talks and programs at various museums and historical societies, including the Smithsonian, the California State Railroad Museum and the Oakland Museum.

Her work has been published in several journals and books, notably Journal of the West, Diesels over Donner: Mountain Soul of the Southern Pacific, Whistles Across the Land and Encyclopedia of North American Railroading. She co-wrote a children’s book, She’s Been Working on the Railroad, with Nancy Smiler Levinson.


Note: Special Event Parking for Saturday, April 20, 2013

1) Parking is free on Saturday.

2) Visitors can park in staff, student and visitor lots.

3) If visitors are parking in a handicapped space - 
 
All parking spaces are clearly marked with standard blue color and signage. Parking in these spaces is strictly enforced. A blue or red handicapped placard or handicapped license plate is required and MUST be visible when occupying a handicapped space on campus.
